Introduction:
The Centre of Non-Communicable Diseases (CRNCD) organised a half day Wellness Seminar titled “World Sleep Day 2021 webinar – Snooze To Escape The Blue” on 20th March 2021 on zoom platform from 02:00 PM to 05: 30 PM. This seminar was open to the people of sungai long community, UTAR staff, health professionals and students. The objectives of the event were to create a platform for sharing concepts of Sleep Medicine and importance and to engage latest development in various field to abet in issues with sleep.

The speakers for the seminar were Dr. Tripat Deep Singh, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Izuanuddin Ismail, Mr. Tarun Amalnerkar, Ms. Navamani a/p Nagappon.

Webinar structure:
Dr. Tripat Deep Singh, MBBS, MD (Physiology), RPSGT, RST, Sleep Philips, Singapore Clinical Manager as an Invited speaker gave a talk with title “Sleep-a wake-up call for the medical community”, he has discussed increased issues of sleep among public, students in Malaysian perspective etc. Topics regarding sleep physiology and sleep medicine need to be included in the medical curriculum while general practitioners need to be included in the care of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Izuanuddin Ismail, MB BCH BAO(DUB), MRCP(IRE), AM (MAL), FCCP(USA) has shared his talk with title “Sleep and Covid-19 pandemic, towards regular sleep for healthy future”. Dr Ahmad also spoke about screening procedures adopted before access to the sleep laboratory, sleep disorders, quality sleep elements, OSA and its effect on health issues, tips for better sleep and other related research studies. Mr. Tarun Amalnerkar, Master of Physiotherapy (Neurology) Lecturer / Physiotherapy Department, UTAR has shared his talk with “scope of physiotherapy. He has pondered upon various research conducted in the field of Sleep Medicine & Physiotherapy. Initiatives such as organizing campaigns, sleep workshops, sleep awareness programmes and education may improve awareness, knowledge among the participants. Tarun has also demonstrated some techniques and stretching methods. He has also delivered his talk and demonstrated few techniques. Ms. Navamani a/p Nagappon Registered and Licensed Counsellor (KB PA). Leonard Personality Inventory Trainer and Psychotherapist And Certified Hypnotherapist has shared perspectives on students encountering sleeping problems due to unsolved problem, environmental issue, personality and self-value, mental health issues as well as physical issues. She also has share that they also provide therapy session such as expressive arts, inventories, relaxation therapy to help the clients to sleep better. The event has been attended by more than 100 participants (Students, staff and public). The webinar ended by 05:30 PM. Based on the feedback we can say it was a successful notion. Prof. Dr. John Paul Judson (CRNCD Chairperson) has given vote of thanks & concluded the event.

The major objective of this webinar is to 1. Gain knowledge about the Important Clinical aspect & new recent updates trends in Cardiac rehabilitation. 2. Learn about how to manage the post pandemic challenges during Post COVID-19 rehabilitation. 3. To highlight the UTAR physiotherapy clinic all over the university staffs and students.

Webinar structure:
The event was recommended by Dean FMHS (dated: 04/03/2021) and approval date by VP RDC was obtained on 04/05/2021. The event started at 3.30 PM. All the participants were requested to log in 15 minutes prior to the event to avoid technical issues. The webinar was hosted by Ms Kiruthika S. Once log into zoom, participants filled the sign in form shared in zoom chat box of control panel. Welcome address was given by Dr Ilayaraja A, (Organising chair) Assistant Professor, Department of Physiotherapy, Prof John Paul Evangel Judson, Chairman Centre for Research on Non-Communicable Disease (CRNCD), and Mr Muhammed Noh Zulfikri, Head of the Physiotherapy Department, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UTAR. Mr Arnald Rajan and Mr Mangalaram were the invited speakers for this event. Mr ArnaldRajan, Cardiac Rehab specialist, Southmead hospital, Bristol, UK discussed about recent updates in cardiac rehabilitation for 45 minutes and Mr Mangalaram M.Sc PT Respiratory Physiotherapist, UK discussed about post COVID challenges in rehabilitation for 45 minutes. To ensure that the information given is useful and understandable to our participants, Q & A session was hosted by Puan Nurul Husna for 25 minutes. This session helped the participants to share the ideas and experiences during this pandemic period. Following Q&A session, participants was requested to sign out. Sign in and sign out is to claim USSDC soft skill points for UTAR students and other Malaysian institute students. Virtual photo taken and Dr Ilayaraja.A presented the vote the thanks. Later at the end of session at 6.30pm, feedback link was sent to all participants via chat box. The feedback had 2 sections: one on event feedback and 2nd section was for e-certificate. e-certificate was provided to all participants who submitted feedback. Ms Valle maintained/provided the IT support throughout the event and Ms Nandakumari along with committee members involved in managing the participants with links and feedbacks.
