She is a trained counseling psychiatric psychologist and a clinical hypnotherapist with 18 years of experience as a psychotherapist, counselor, supervisor, and trainer. Dr. Shanthi has conducted workshops on various management levels, given talks on mental health and illness at international and national conferences.

Talk Synopsis: The Pandemic in recent years has created turbulence globally, which brought damage both psychologically and impacted one’s well-being. It has been challenging for children and teens during this pandemic era to experience transforming lifestyle, behaviors, and the arrival of new norms. As a result, uncertainties, “a state of limbo” and ambiguity tend to creep into every walk of our lives. A sense of awareness should be designed to intervene to “neutralize” the stress and the uncertainties of the aftermath of the pandemic era. As a remedy, an inclusive action plan from family members, school communities, and the authority should be made a reality to deal with the post-dilemma of the pandemic era.

Natasya Nadzmi

With a background in social work, she believes that all survivors need to be treated empathetically and without judgment from society. She strongly advocates that an education for all and interagency approach is crucial in tackling gender-based violence thus uplifting women, in general.

Talk Synopsis: Ms. Natasha deliberated on the topic ‘What is Gender-Based Violence? Understanding different types of GBV and the Intersections’. This talk aimed to help communities learn what gender-based violence (GBV) is, identify its root causes, how it affects all members of a community (adults and children alike), and how critical it is for community members to take responsibility and action.

Dr. Cecilia Chan
Profile: A Gerontologist, Trainer, researcher, and a very passionate dementia advocate and activist, who has been involved in the eldercare industry for the past 20 years. Dr. Cecilia has been involved in various projects concerning providing services and facilities to the Malaysian elderly and presented numerous papers at both international and national Conferences.

Talk Synopsis: Dr. Cecilia stated that dementia has been “hidden in the shadows” and this is even more apparent in Malaysia as we know there are no specific policies or support socially and financially to our Malaysians living with dementia and their loved ones. Dementia continues to be one of the most misunderstood and stigmatized health conditions. The dementia story as we’ve been telling is so often a story of despair, shame, loss of ability, loss of meaning, and loss of connection. It’s a story of wasting away, a story of a devastating disconnects from identity and community. The stigma and segregation were manifested more intensely during the pandemic. As such, with a sense of moral urgency to address this crisis, there is an urgent need to shift the culture of dementia care from centralized control, safety, isolation, and punitive interventions to a culture of inclusion, creativity, justice, and respect. She emphasized that we are living in a time of dementia which touches the lives of more of us than ever before. This sharing aims to burrow into that stigma, to directly confront it and thereby come to understand it more fully so that it won’t interfere with living a full life with dementia and supporting people with dementia. By coming to know about and making use of services that might help them, people will be better able to alleviate the tragic social conditions of the disease—the isolation, the stress, the depression and create a more positive approach to dementia. She justified her talk by stressing that ‘It is a time to reimagine dementia’.

She covered on Mindset-Emotion-Behavior where she said, to be happy with yourself in the present moment while maintaining a dream of your future is a grand recipe for manifestation.
