Experienced UTAR researchers are well-recognised for their research work. Since 2005, they have secured external funding in projects.
Figure 2-3 above shows the amount of external fundings received (funding in UTAR) by our researchers as well as their collaboration with other organisations (funding not in UTAR) from years 2005 until 2023. In year 2023, a total amount of RM7.477 million was secured by the researchers (funding in UTAR) from external funding sources listed in Chart 2-1.
The biggest funding source was awarded by the Government agencies amounting RM4.738 million (41 projects), followed by the those awarded by the industries amounted at RM1.339 million (18 projects). The rest of funding was awarded by the international funding bodies and local Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) RM658,914.78 (11 projects) and RM191,884.40 (12 projects) respectively.

The highest funding was awarded by the Ministry of Higher Education’s Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) amounting RM3,808,626.00 (36 projects), followed by NanoMalaysia Berhad a company limited by guarantee (CLBG) under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) with a total funding of RM900,000.00 (2 projects).
For the industry sector, PETRONAS Research Sdn Bhd has awarded the highest funding amounting RM834,500.00 (1 project), followed by KOSSAN Rubber Industries Berhad with a total funding of RM188,00.00 for 2 projects.

A total of 237 active external funded research projects as at 31 December 2023 are listed in Appendix A2.




UTAR researchers had also actively collaborated with other organisations/institutions (funding not in UTAR) in numerous external funded research projects amounting to a total of RM3.471 million.

The funding organisations/institutions are shown in Chart 2-2. The funding sources for the collaborations are from the local universities (RM1.62 million), international organisations (RM950,936.00), Government agencies (RM727,503.00), NGOs (RM158,076.00) and industries (RM15,000.00).
