Recognising the significance and pivotal role of research and development (R&D) in promoting a nation's well-being and driving economic growth, UTAR has made R&D a key priority. Since its establishment in 2002, UTAR has diligently cultivated an ecosystem that fosters a research culture within its community. This has been achieved through the implementation of various initiatives, including the UTAR Research Roadmap, UTAR Research Fund policy, UTAR Research Scholarship Scheme, UTAR Global Research Network, establishment of Research Centers, and fostering research collaborations with local industry partners and renowned institutions.
To further enhance R&D activities at UTAR, roadmaps for faculties and research centers were introduced in 2021, building upon the previous UTAR Roadmap that concluded in 2014. Currently, UTAR has established 35 research centres, comprising a dedicated team of more than 1,300 academic staff. These research centres serve as catalysts for R&D activities across a wide range of disciplines, encompassing fields such as Renewable Energy, Stem Cell Research, Cybersecurity, Smart Agriculture, Wastewater Treatment, Cancer Research, E-Commerce, IoT, Artificial Intelligence, Behavioral Science, Plant Physiology, Chinese Studies, Construction Management, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Sensor Research.
The purpose of this R&D Annual Report is to showcase UTAR's unwavering efforts and notable achievements in high-impact R&D projects, Research Publications, Research Collaborations, activities conducted by UTAR Research Centres, Consultancies, and Awards received. It serves as a comprehensive representation of UTAR's research portfolio and highlights the university's commitment to fostering new talent through R&D, thereby contributing to the advancement of knowledge, innovation, and overall societal growth. UTAR aspires to be globally recognized as a university of educational and research excellence, making a transformative impact on society as a whole.
