Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) Application

1. DETAILS

A. Definition

FRGS is for basic research that can develop theories, concept and new ideas towards knowledge development.

B. Objective

This research involves exploration of new ideas, concepts or theories which will be the backbone to new discoveries and innovative creations that can further expand the boundaries of knowledge.

C. Research Areas
FRGS funding covers basic areas that can support the nation’s strategic agenda. Areas that have been identified are:

A. Pure Science
B. Applied Science
C. Technology and Engineering
D. Clinical and Health Sciences
E. Social Sciences
F. Arts and Applied Arts
G. Natural Science and National Heritage.

D. Quantum of Funding

Maximum total funding of RM250,000.00, maximum disbursement

RM125,000.00/year;


Budget details::
i. V11000: Stipend amount; RM1,500 p/month

for Master Student, RM2,000 for PhD

V21000: Overseas expenses not more than RM15,000 or 20% of total grant(whichever is lower), total expenses not more than 40% of the total grant.
ii. V27000: is for consumables only. Equipment and accessories should be put under V35000.
iii. V29000:
a. Professional Service: Publication, hospitality, honorarium, professional service & consultation.
b. Special Service: Training (not more than 3 months & expenses not more than 10% of total grant)
iv. V35000: not more than 40% of the total grant

E. Project Duration

2 to 3 years.

2. INTERNAL SCREENING

All FRGS application will be reviewed at Faculty level Internal Screening (1 evaluator) before submission to IPSR. Forms required for Internal Screening are:

Internal Screening Form; and  Recommendation from Faculty.

3. INTERVIEW AND DEADLINE

There will be interview assessment for this Cycle. Kindly refer below for the timeline of interview assessment and deadline of application to IPSR:

Application reviewed by Faculty Panel of Reviewer 22 DECEMBER 2011 ~26 JANUARY 2012
Send the application revised hardcopy & softcopy to IPSR 27 JANUARY 2012

FRDPC Interview Assessment

[IPSR and/or VP (RDC)]

30 JANUARY ~ 3 FEBRUARY 2012
Revised Submission to IPSR  8~ 14 FEBRUARY 2012
IPSR Consolidation & Submission to MOHE  15 ~ 21 FEBRUARY 2012
Closing Date of Applications to MOHE 22-FEBRUARY 2012


NOTE:
Please make sure the application sent to IPSR is the Final Application to avoid late submission to MOHE.
Please refer to the Guidelines ruled out by MOHE before submitting the application. Kindly attach Checklist (Principal Investigator Level) upon submission of the application form.
