Call for Proposal - Yayasan Belia Buddhist Malaysia- Changes in Religious Affiliations among Chinese Malaysians

Yayasan Belia Buddhist Malaysia invites UTAR researchers to submit a research proposal focused on the following topic.

Title: Changes in Religious Affiliations among Chinese Malaysians.

Objectives: 1. To study the pattern or trend of conversion in and out of traditional belief system (Buddhism Confucianism Taoism and folk believes) among the Chinese Malaysians.
2. To identify the factors/ reasons for such conversion.

Methodology: quantitative social survey and analysis.

Rationale: Few Research report has identified the Buddhist share of world‘s population is expected to decrease from 7% in 2015 to 5% in 2060. In Malaysia, the combined Buddhist-Confucianism-Taoist-folk belief population among Chinese Malaysian has decreased from 92% in 1970 to 85% in 2020. This research report should aim at tracing the trend and identifying the factors and causes for such a trend.

Duration of research project: 1 year

Budget: maximum of RM30,000
