Doctor of Philosophy (Chinese Studies)
| The
Doctor of Philosophy (Chinese Studies) program provides candidates with
the opportunity to pursue their interest in research on Chinese
language and literature, culture and society, and history and
philosophy. Candidates will study various aspects of Chinese
civilization and China's influence on its neighbors. This postgraduate
program, structured towards academic performance and skills in critical
thinking and inquiry, will produce graduates to cater to the needs of
various professions inside and outside the country. It is a specialized
program consisting of combination of research and coursework mode of
study. Throughout the program, candidates are encouraged to participate
and attend enhancement courses such as Project/Dissertation Writing
Workshops or Lecture Series. Mode of Study Research This program entails a specific program of research under appropriate supervision. The coursework component consists of Research Methods and two directed readings subjects. There will be a specified amount of contact time which will take the form of seminars and discussion. Assessment for the subjects includes individual assignment work, case-studies and examinations. Candidates may be required to give seminars and write reports on their research. The general objective of this program is to train candidates in research methodology and techniques, and in the critical evaluation of the research work carried out. Candidates are also required to apply and evaluate methodologies and techniques. An original contribution to the body of knowledge in the field undertaken is required for award of the Doctorate degree. Entry Requirements 1. Master's degree (Chinese Studies), OR, 2. Any other equivalent qualifications, OR, 3. UTAR Master's candidates (Chinese Studies) who have successfully obtained Senate approval for conversion to PhD programme. 概述 拉曼大学中文博士课程提供一个良好机会予有志于研究中国文化、文学、哲学、历史、语言文字以及社会结构 的人士，以增进他们有关中华文化之知识，了解更多中 华文明的历史，以及中国和周边国家的互动关系。这项课程也能启发学生的思辨能力，以便在国内外的不同领域里发挥其潜能。
课程结构 由大学指派导师指导所设定的研究范畴，修读一门指定科目、两门选修科目，以及呈交一篇学位论文。这些课程主要在于培训学生掌握研究方法，深入探讨所研究的 课题。学生可应用所学到的技能来论述他们的专研成果, 同时发挥其对研究课题的心得，对学术作出贡献。撰写论文及教学媒介皆以中文为主，论文内容必须与所研究的范畴相关。在修读的过程中，学生受鼓励参与各种学 术讨论会。

修業年限 全职生可在2-6年 内修完课程；在职生须于4-8年 内修完课程。
