Master of Philosophy - FBF at Perak Campus

Overview
The UTAR's Master's programme offered by the Faculty of Business and Finance aims to prepare candidates with intellectual background and research skills in a specific area of management, business administration, banking and finance, accounting and economics so that their research discoveries and insights are valuable for advancement of knowledge and development of new business strategies.

The Faculty of Business and Finance, through its various departments, is currently offering the Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in seven areas of specialization:
(i)     Business and Management
(ii)     Banking and Finance
(iii)    Economics
(iv)    Accountancy
(v)     Marketing
(vi)    Entrepreneurship
(vii)    Information Systems  

 
The MPhil programme aims to produce business and academic researchers with necessary expertise to carry out standard-level research in relation to academic or business issues. The programme nurtures researchers who will be able to fill positions in academia at universities, research institutes, colleges, and in research department of large public organizations.

Mode of Study: By Research
The research-based Master of Philosophy is geared at training candidates to carry out their research work in all the business and management areas of specialization under appropriate supervision. Candidates are also required to apply and evaluate methodologies and techniques in carrying the research. The research work produced in the form of a Master's thesis must (a) display original and critical thoughts, and (b) add significant values to the current state of knowledge, and contribute to address business problems and issues.

In order to provide in-depth understanding of the business research processes and the acquiring of research skills culminating in the writing of the thesis, candidates are required to attend and complete two compulsory modules: (Coursework based Subject)
(1)     Business Research Methodology
(2)     Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methods

Entry Requirement

 

Minimum Entry Requirement

(a) A Bachelor’s degree with Honours in related areas from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman or any other university recognised by the Senate; or

(b) An equivalent qualification from an institution recognized as of comparable status by the Senate; or

(c)  A degree or equivalent with at least two (2) years working experience after obtaining that degree, or equivalent.

‘two’ (2) years working experience’ means any working experience after obtaining that qualification which period shall also include practical training and any industrial attachment.
