Overview Mathematical
sciences form an important and basic component in the research
development in science and technology. This is evident by the
increasing usage of mathematics in economics, biological sciences,
medical sciences nanotechnology, engineering and computer science.
Research in mathematical sciences has provided many applications to
help solve problems in these fields.
UTARs'
postgraduate programmes in mathematical sciences intend to produce
mathematical sciences graduates who can think logically, critically and
creatively so as to be efficient and skilled in the field of research
in mathematical sciences; possess broad and in-depth knowledge in
mathematical sciences for use in other areas of science and technology;
present discoveries and findings in the form of academic writings;
particiapte in the research and development activities in mathematical
sciencs; contribute to the quantitative literay of the general public. Mode of Study : By Research The
research-based postgraduate programmes in Matheamtical Sciences
entail a specific programme of research under appropriate
supervision. Research-based programmes generally have the objective of
training candidates in research methodology and techniques, and in the
critical evaluation of the research work carried out. Candidates are
also required to apply and evaluate methodologies and techniques. The
research work produced in the form of a PhD thesis and a Master's
dissertation must display original and critical thought and be a
significant contribution to knowledge.
To
assist candidates in research methodology and techniques, candidates
are required to attend and complete the Directed Readings in
Mathematical Science / Literature Research in Mathematical Sciences
class. Additional classes in other subjects maybe deemed
necessary by UTAR Senate for candidates without the appropriate
background.
